Inside this Project
Power One served as demolition contractor for the dismantlement of the NASA Coca 4 Test Stand located in the Santa Susana Field Laboratory. This Test Stand supported testing of the Delta IV Rocket program for NASA with extensive mechanical systems affixed to it. With no room to deploy felling techniques, the structure demolition required a dismantlement process supported by a 300-ton crawler crane. Sections of the structure were segmented with cutting torches and flown to ground level for additional downsizing and removal from site. This high-profile project was performed under strict oversight from the Army Corp of Engineers and NASA to ensure no impacts to environment surrounding the test stand.
Project Details
- Power One developed a professionally engineered workplan to detail cut locations for unconventional components of the structure
- Project performed on schedule with zero incidents
- Limited footprint to execute the work due to topography of surrounding land
- Extensive work at heights exceeding 200 feet
